I wrote this the other day: Please feel free to use any of that on your website, if you think it would be useful. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Sharon, my wife, booked us onto a Pig Paradise one day course. We thought it would be a fun day out, and instructive. But people like us can't keep pigs, obviously. I mean, be serious! We spent a really fun day with Tony and Carron. About an hour in, we glanced at each other. We, I am sure, both had odd expressions on our faces. It had dawned on us that people like us CAN keep pigs. An hour later it was more "People like us MUST keep pigs". Tony demystifies the whole business of pig-keeping (and he's very insistent that it IS a business, keeping pigs should not cost money). What he doesn't know about pigs can be written in large letters on a particularly small piglet. Suffice to say that a couple of years on, we're bringing our fourth set of pigs to finished weight, and we've eaten the best meat we've EVER tasted. We seem to have lots of hungry friends, too... Tony and Carron don't just cast you loose at the end of the day and send you on your way. They say they'll be there if and when you need advice and they absolutely are. When you're standing in a field looking at a pig, you've Googled and you're SURE she has Batavian Tick Fever and only has seconds to live, a panicky phone call to Pig Paradise reveals that she's just a bit thirsty. Phew! Backup like that is worth the price of admission all on its own. If you're toying with the idea of a Pig Paradise course, toy no more. Go. you are interested in pigs then this is the site for you. Whether you keep pigs
yourself, are thinking about keeping pigs or just love pigs because they are
such intelligent, friendly and adorable animals we hope that you will visit
this site often. You may even want to visit our farm in person. At 'Pig
Paradise' we keep a total of nine different breeds of pig which we selectively
breed according to demand. These include the seven British rare breeds that are
recognised by the Rare Breeds Survival Trust (RBST) and the very popular
'Oxford Sandy & Black' that is known as a 'reconstituted breed' plus the
New Zealand 'Kune Kune'.
We are also very pleased to announce
that the ‘Curly Coated’ pigs we brought in from Austria and Hungary
(see above) are all being herd book registered by the British Pig Association
using the final herd book names used by the ‘Lincolnshire Curly
Coat’ – A fantastic idea that came about after much research by
Marcus Bates (Chief Executive BPA). It has been a long and sometimes difficult
task organising the herd book and registration due to difficulties confirming
ear tag numbers with the Austrians and Hungarians during a period when Tony
York has been seriously ill in hospital but it has been worth it in the end. Take a look at the whole site by using the index below
