Pig Paradise Farm and Pig Perfect The Home of all the Rare Pig Breeds
'JAMIE SAVES OUR BACON' - TV CHANNEL 4 - 29.1.09 Did Jamie Oliver get it wrong? Maybe it should have been titled - 'Help our Supermarkets sell more pork' !! Here are ten questions to ponder on - because Joanna Lumley was right 1. Whatever happened to the traditional Rare Breed Pigs like the Tamworth, British Saddleback, Berkshire, Middle White, Gloucestershire Old Spots, British Lop, Oxford Sandy and Balck and Large Black? 2. Whatever happend to the naturally fed and reared pigs that are not fed feed that makes them grow at a rate that is unnatural and live a normal natural life outdoors for all their lives digging and rooting naturally? 3. Why did the programme show tail docking and castration of little piglets when it is totally unnecessary to do so if pigs are allowed to live naturally and are not so bored they will eat each others tails? 4. Why were we shown an 'assisted birth' of a piglet when if allowed to farrow naturally this was totally unnecessary? 5. Why apart from a brief film showing Hugh Fernley-Whittingstall and his pigs (a credit to Hugh and to the way he rears pigs) did we not see how pigs fed and reared naturally are happier and produce a 'mouth watering eating experience'? 6. Why was it necessary to show semen being collected from a boar unless it was to shock, provoke comment or titillate? Is showing someone mastibating a pig on television going to help 'save our bacon' or it just going to humiliate a very intelligent animal further? 7. Was the 'PIG BROTHER' event anything more than a less than satisfactory attempt to cash in on a more popular TV reality show in order to pad out the programme or did it really do anything to help 'Save our Bacon'? 8. Did Jamie really have his heart where his mouth was or were the cue cards he was apparently holding his only link to the world of pigs he seemed uncomfortable to be in? A great TV chef but maybe he was outside of his comfort zone. 9. Why was the majority of the programme more like a film set than an actual farm or farms as was the case with Hugh Fernley-Whittingstall programmes about commercial chicken farming? 10. If Jamie was refused access to film the programme in a commercial fattening or breeding unit in the UK (as was the case in Denmark) why were we not told? Like many people who have already telephoned us and many small scale Rare Breed pigkeepers who have attended our courses leaving us motivated and inspired to keep pigs in the way they should be kept - we were very disappointed ........... because............. HAPPINESS IS 'PIG SHAPED' SO HAVE A REALLY HAPPY 2009 - BUT DO IT PROPERLY 'Happiness is Pig Shaped' and with just a little bit of land and a desire to have a better quality of life
Just a few of the very happy people that have joined us over the last 12 months BY THE LOOK ON THEIR FACES THEY PROVE THAT 'HAPPINESS IS PIG SHAPED' Daily Telegraph Article (Saturday 28th June 2008) Check it out - Course Members Success (Please click the link below) http://www.telegraph.co.uk/education/main.jhtml?xml=/education/2008/06/28/farecession28.xml THE SITE FOR RARE BREED PIG LOVERS WHERE HAPPINESS IS PIG SHAPED If you are interested in pigs then this is the site for you. Whether you keep pigs yourself, are thinking about keeping pigs or just love pigs because they are such intelligent, friendly and adorable animals we hope that you will visit this site often. You may even want to visit our farm in person. At 'Pig Paradise' we keep a total of nine different breeds of pig which we selectively breed according to demand. These include the seven British rare breeds that are recognised by the Rare Breeds Survival Trust (RBST) and the very popular 'Oxford Sandy & Black' that is known as a 'reconstituted breed' plus the New Zealand 'Kune Kune'. We are also very pleased to announce that the ‘Curly Coated’ pigs we brought in from Austria and Hungary (see above) are all being herd book registered by the British Pig Association using the final herd book names used by the ‘Lincolnshire Curly Coat’ – A fantastic idea that came about after much research by Marcus Bates (Chief Executive BPA). It has been a long and sometimes difficult task organising the herd book and registration due to difficulties confirming ear tag numbers with the Austrians and Hungarians during a period when Tony York has been seriously ill in hospital but it has been worth it in the end. We are pleased to say that slowly but surely Tony York has recovered and is looking forward to the 2008 courses that he will be running in conjunction with Carron who has done so much to help keep things going against all the odds during a very difficult period.
